What year is it again?

'Scuse me while I give this another go. The only times in my life I reliably kept any kind of journal were my freshman year of college, and during a cross-country solo bike trip when I had to kill time in my tent and do something sitting alone at restaurants. Meanwhile... well, never mind the meanwhile yet, or I'll never write anything.
It was a good day, I'm warm, dry, fed, and Amy's home.

Um, this month...

Thank God and orbital mechanics it's spring! March was a looong month. Lots of work and news-consuming (sometimes at the same time-- one day's work I'd rather not repeat: cataloging a stack of videotaped Pentagon news briefings and Bush speeches about the war). To blow off energy, Amy & I did an almost obsessive amount of cooking for friends on weekends. Four, maybe five separate gatherings, two on Fridays after work-- it was great, but we've declared a moratorium for, oh, at least two weeks.

Best entree: Russian vegetable pie, from The Vegetarian Epicure
Best soup: Potato-kale, adapted from the recipe in Moosewood's Low-Fat Cookbook. First adaptation: heavy cream instead of evaporated skim (yes, I know). Second mista...adaptation: used crappy mealy potatoes that pureed into nasty gritty bits, which made it necessary to puree again with some of the kale in it and (duh) strain the soup. Much improved, and a happy shade of green to boot.

Mood: tired
Music: Cooling fan hum

So I'm tempted to start writing in medias res, as if there were hundreds of my entries already extant but invisible. But no, that would be difficult and silly. Since silly has never stopped me, chalk it up to difficult.
Thanks to slipjig for getting me started.

Mood: chipper
Music: Jolly ploughboys / Kate Rusby.
